WHO WE ARE
FRL Design Limited was founded to provide a new approach to façade engineering and design of the building envelope.
As company directors, Richard Lee and Finley Roberts bring together their vast practical and theoretical design knowledge to provide an economic yet bespoke service.
They are member and associate-member of The Society of Façade Engineers respectively, having proven themselves to excel in the building envelope discipline.
FRL Design provides façade designs that meet an ever-changing climate with evolving demands.
PRE-TENDERING DOCUMENTS
Cost and Sustainability are the two driving forces in any modern construction.
Unfortunately these two factors also promote the exclusion of façade design at a tender stage and this leads to information being provided to all design parties that often requires costly revisions.
We have extensive experience of projects being over or under specified at a tender stage. This not only provides incorrect demise lines for architects due to inaccurate mullion sizes but also creates false hope to clients on projected building envelope costs.
Our Pre-tender design service has cost and sustainability at its forefront and gives the client a more detailed summary of the proposed design. This ensures accuracy moving forward and saves time, money and provides clarity to all parties at project-start design meetings.
CURTAIN WALLING
The curtain wall is now the clear choice for many architects and building planners. The non-structural, lightweight nature of its design lends perfectly to its adaptability and the need for increased natural lighting inside modern structures makes it the ideal building façade.
FRL Design pride ourselves in the design of cladding and curtain walling structures. We have extensive experience with most of the commonly used manufacturers and the ability to adapt their products to projects through ingenious bracket design and forward-thinking analysis.
The company also has the ability to carry out designs for structural framing systems and advise on how these can be utilised to accommodate architectural features to the facades.
FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS
The modern form of design incorporating the latest available technology, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modelling enables us to stretch the limits of materials we design.
This can take the form of non-linear plate design for architectural fins, to vibration and frequency checks on complex slender staircases.
Incorporating these results into our own calculations helps to optimise our client’s intent whilst maintaining adherence to design standards and codes.
SECONDARY STEELWORK
We have considerable experience in the design of secondary steelwork, primary steelwork connections and the design and detailing of architectural metalwork.
Our expertise ranges from large rigid frame connections to lightweight minimalistic balustrades.
We check stresses and deflections using finite element modelling meaning that no bracket or secondary steelwork element is beyond our design capabilities.
